...something negative to the state of affairs regarding this election? And manage to pull it off in a double-barrelled fashion?
Head over to The Hamiltonian and the article 'Signing Off'.
It's about vandalism. Vandalism involving candidates' signs.
And it's got some choice stuff going on in both the main body of text and in the comments.
Ward 11 candidate Ken Chartrand is quoted as saying "This is a further indication that it is time for a change." Congratulations, Mr. Chartrand; you're the frontrunner for this week's award for Best Doofus Comment. What exactly should we infer from your comment, Mr. Chartrand? That this vandalism was either perpetrated or arranged by those candidates in the two wards whose signs were not among the assortment? Mostly the incumbents? And so, by extension, you're saying that change (that is, new Councillors) is indicated? Hmm... I'm going to have to think on this a while, because the target you've provided me is a) too big, and b) far too juicy.
As for the comments made by The Hamiltonian readers...including mayoral candidate Edward H.C. Graydon...they accomplished a stunning trifecta of responses: wide-eyed, gobsmacked staring, a slight dribble of urine due to the paroxysms of laughter, and gratitude that Cal DiFalco And Gang are managing to attract the calibre of visitors they are.
(Oh, and how come Larry's signs weren't mentioned...?)

I'm always interested in feedback, differing opinions, even contrarian blasts...as long as they're delivered with decorum...with panache and flair always helping.
